I feel a little unprepared for that type of situation. Otherwise, it was great! Instructor was very helpful. Thank you!

I think more practice on the fake arm would be helpful, as well as a separate section where we could practice draws on each other with instructor supervision.

Anonymous: In the last section where we were given practical experience at sticking the manikin - there were a number of mistakes made and no feedback was given, for example, one person uncapped the butterfly needle prior to attaching the vacutainer which resulted in the needle dangling everywhere and being unsafe. I think that this part of the session should be used as an opportunity to receive immediate feedback on your technique in order to improve.

Anonymous: I think more hands on learning would have been helpful (instead of just one stick per person). Felt like most of the in-person course was just reviewing the online modules we were assigned. Also felt like it should have been specified to practice balancing hand on mannequin arm when performing stick because this helped me tremendously in steadying my hand. Really nice and helpful instructor though.

Anonymous: I think the course should devote some time to actually listing out the steps in drawing blood and ensuring the class understands before practicing on the dummy. I understand there's a variety of "styles" but I believe many people in my group would have benefited from a more rules-based approach. It would have been nice to also practice finding veins on real people (even if you can't draw their blood) and to touch on any methods to help patients feel more calm while having their blood drawn.

Before taking part in the simulation I would have appreciated a moment to hear about what I'd be looking for if it was an actual person.

Alyssa P: Excellent course! The instructor was professional and thorough yet approachable, course was kept to an appropriate length. The only thing I'd like to see added to the content is practicing a blood draw on a real volunteer after practicing on the dummy arm several times, but I understand that that may not be possible. I just took the ECG training and liked being able to practice on an actual person, but ECG is lower risk and non-invasive.
