MGH Division of Clinical Research

Interpreting and Presenting Results-Qualitative and Mixed Methods

Ended: June 4, 2020

This one session course will assist clinical researchers in interpreting and presenting qualitative research data that they have coded using NVivo, other software, or by hand. We will address how to utilize the data to identify themes and overarching ideas, connections between themes, and ways in which themes may vary by attributes of individual interviewees, focus groups or other units of analysis. We also will address strategies for effectively reporting qualitative research results in presentations and manuscripts, and for integrating qualitative and quantitative research results in the context of mixed methods studies.

Margaret H: I really enjoyed the review of Qualitative research this morning. I am not currently involved in any research but have been in the past and the talk reminded me of how much fun it is to conduct research. The platform was easy to use, the speaker was enthusiastic, seeing how many others are interested all contributed to a great experience. Thanks

Wyliena G: I really liked the examples the instructor gave. They highly illuminated the content on the slides. I don't think that I could draw as much from the presentation from only the slides, so the instructor's experience and insight helped a lot. Thank you!

Cynthia M: Dr. Traeger is an excellent teacher- she gave many examples from her own work that illustrated the concepts discussed, invited questions throughout the presentation, and responded to questions clearly. Her expertise in this area was very apparent. Thank you!

Anonymous: The beginning of the course seemed a bit too general and broad to be useful, and when we got to the specific examples we were largely out of time and the content was rushed too much to learn from or to consider the specifics.
