This course will provide a high level overview of the REDCap tool. Learn about study start up, project life cycles, data management, and how to program data fields and branching logic. There will be time devoted to user’s Q&A and design questions.
The Learning Objectives include:
1) How to access REDCap and request new projects.
2) Understanding the types of projects that REDCap can support.
3) How to collect data, the different methods to send survey invites and to collect data directly from participants (self-reported) in clinics.
4) How to program data collection instruments and utilize the program features.
The course is geared toward investigators and staff at all levels interested in the utility and capability of REDCap for research. Participants may find it helpful to view our online videos prior to attending: https://rc.partners.org/redcapgettingstarted

Anonymous: It was great to have a Redcap overview- there was clearly a lot of interest, and attendees had many questions. It seems there needs to be more Redcap tech personnel/support and capacity for MGB staff to get more consultation, ask questions, and look through the program at a slower pace (in addition to all the self guided tutorials that are available - you often have to sit or sift through material and can not find answers to specific questions. Thank you for hosting the session.

Anonymous: It was a good overview, but I believe tried to cover so much at once. I guess I already know what REDCap has to offer, so I was mistaken that I might gain insight into how to use some of the functionalities.

Anonymous: As an overview of the whole system, this was excellent. If you were after a tutorial of how to do specific things you would be disappointed. I got exactly what I wanted and really appreciated the time for questions at the end.

Anonymous: Overall I don't feel like this course was very helpful. Being new to research and databases this felt very broad and didn't really allow me to grasp the basics of REDcap. This information at the beginning about how the use of REDcap has grown was too extensive (one slide would have sufficed). The videos on the getting started website are more helpful. I feel like the best way to facilitate an introduction to this course would be through tutorials or better yet a guided computer lab session, where you are asked to create a new project and various aspects that are commonly used with guided help. The instructor was great given the pre-determined curriculum. She didn't make the process any longer or shorter than it needed to be, and she was very helpful and knowledgable when questions were asked.

Anonymous: This was not a very helpful course. Perhaps a class format is not the best way to assist people with REDCap. That being said, I still think that the content could be changed to make the class much more useful. There were far too many slides with graphs and data about the response rate when people ask for assistance with REDCap. One slide at most would have sufficed...I think more specific examples or tutorials about creating a survey, how to determine which kind of survey to create, or frequently asked questions about survey creation/editing or data exporting would have been more helpful. The content of this course needs a major overhaul.

Anonymous: It felt too basic where I didn't actually learn that much but just a vague general idea of things.

Anonymous: I attended this courses as a refresher as I last used REDcap as a project manager a few years ago. I felt this presentation to be too broad and would have found it more useful to use real time examples instead of lecture style as the lecture seems to jump around a little much. I will watch the video resources for more assistance.
