Clinical Research Skills: Reading a Clinical Research Protocol: Where to begin

Ended: July 11, 2018

Allie Sosinsky, Program Coordinator, Psychiatry

One of the very first things a new clinical research coordinator is asked to do is read a study protocol. Depending on the complexity and number of protocols along with a limited amount of time for review, this can seem like a daunting task.
However, there are useful strategies one can employ to become a more efficient reader. The goal of this session is to present strategies for reading research protocols both critically and efficiently.

Anonymous: Very useful class. Well put together and well-executed. The two things I'd change: I'd add a possible comparisons section for different kinds of clinical research with regards to the requirements of the protocols as well as CRC's responsibilities in creating/advising/tailoring proposals yet to be submitted; and I'd aim to make the class more interactive if possible.

Anonymous: The instructor was great and the information provided was helpful, but i don’t think an hour is enough time to go fully in depth into a protocol. It may be better to have a slightly longer course so that he practical application part could have been done too.
