Reviews

Anonymous: Great presentations and very useful and clear! Would be great to have a little break in between because three hours of complete focus is hard.

Anonymous: Thought it was a good intro to biobanking and the mgh system. Best part was the real time how to use the site--the ways to query and then filter were useful. Would be good to have a hands on class using the system and how it interfaces with the EMR system.

Carolyn H: I am new to MGH-Partners so this was an extraordinary overview of the institutional and faculty investment in research across Partners. The expertise, vision and commitment of the panel was impressive. Jordan Smoller and Scott Weiss spoke on the capacity and tools available for research with great examples of collaboration and discoveries from current faculty research. Pearl O'Rourke shared the regulatory and IRB related issues along with a points to consider for the ethical stewardship of biospecimens/human subjects- with a heads up for changes in policies that we should be watching for in the future. Bill Richards spoke about the roadmap for a biobank, specimen collection, tracking and governance and his lessons learned. The organization around this resource is one of the best in the country- having seen different organizations involved in biobanking- and is the efforts of many experts at Partners. The tools and informatics should be an overview course in itself. I was so glad that I attended this in person- the examples and discussion illustrated how this resource has launched successful careers in translational medicine. High five and many thanks for the vision and shared resource (wow!).

Anonymous: Pearl O' Rourke's IRB component of the course was excellent. I would love to see a follow-up course that expands upon human subjects research ethics and biobanking with a focus on streamlining the informed consent process.
